Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni) Care
The Peppermint Shrimp, Lysmata wurdemanni, is also known as the Caribbean Cleaner Shrimp and the Veined Shrimp. These shrimp come from the Western Atlantic Ocean, including the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. They have red antennae and a red body with stripes that look similar to veins.
They are carnivores and scavenge the tank for leftover scraps of food and shouldn’t require much in the way of supplemental foods. You can provide small pieces of fresh seafood or mysis shrimp and they will eat flake and pellet foods. They are known to eat undesirable aiptasia, but this seems to be hit or miss, depending on the shrimp.
They will grow to about 2″ and require an aquarium of at least 30 gallons with plenty of live rock and hiding places.
They are reef safe.
NOTE: These shrimp are very sensitive to changes in salinity so acclimation should be done very slowly.
