Bullseye Pistol Shrimp (Alpheus soror) Care
The Bullseye Pistol Shrimp, Alpheus soror, is also known as the Bullseye Snapping Shrimp. These shrimp come from the Indo-Pacific region. They come in a variety of colors and are distinguished by making a loud snapping noise with their one very large claw.
These shrimp are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods – if they can not find enough food scavenging in the tank, you can supplement their diet with pieces of clam, fish, and shrimp or live brine shrimp.
Pistol Shrimp can reach lengths of about 2″ and can be housed in everything between nano tanks and large aquariums. They are generally peaceful but may fight with other males of their kind.
They are reef safe.
NOTE: These shrimp are very sensitive to changes in salinity so acclimation should be done very slowly.
