General Starfish – Color (Pentaceraster sp.) Care
The General Starfish, Pentaceraster sp., is also known as the Knobbed Starfish. These sea stars come from the Indo-Pacific region. Although colors may vary, many have a dark body with lighter colored tubercles, knobs, on the body and arms.
They are carnivores and will scavenge for leftover foods found in the tank as their primary source of food. You can provide supplemental food like mysis and brine shrimp and small pieces of fresh and frozen seafood.
They can grow up to 11″ and require an aquarium of at least 50 gallons with a sand bed and plenty of room to cruise around in search of food.
General Starfish are NOT reef safe and are known to eat soft corals, sponges, tubeworms, clams, and other starfish.
NOTE: These sea stars are very sensitive to changes in salinity so acclimation should be done very slowly.
