Flame Scallop (Limaria scabra) Care
The Flame Scallop, Limaria scabra, comes from the Western Atlantic Ocean, including the Caribbean Sea. They have a deep red mantel and long and slender reddish tentacles.
Scallops are filter feeds and require expert care. If there is not enough food in the water column, they may need supplemental food such as phytoplankton.
They need to be kept in established aquariums of at least 20 gallons with perfect water conditions. They are peaceful and will not bother other invertebrates, coral, and fish. When frightened, they will either close up their shells or jump using jets of water to propels itself.
