Electric Flame Scallop (Ctenoides ales) Care
The Electric Flame Scallop, Ctenoides ales, comes from the Indo-Pacific region. They typically have a brown or white shell with a brilliant red mantel and red tentacles. They are called Electric Flame Scallops because they actually create electricity that can be seen by the naked eye when the lights are turned off.
Scallops are filter feeds and require expert care. If there is not enough food in the water column, they may need supplemental food such as phytoplankton.
They need to be kept in established aquariums of at least 20 gallons with perfect water conditions. They are peaceful and will not bother other invertebrates, coral, and fish. When frightened, they will either close up their shells or jump using jets of water to propels itself.
