Pom Pom Crab (Lybia tessellata) Care
The Pom Pom Crab, Lybia tessellata, is also known as the Boxer Crab. These crabs come from the Indo-Pacific region. They are very small with tan, white and orangish-brown striped legs and patterned body. These crabs carry around a tiny anemone in each claw that they use for defense. The little white anemones look like cheerleading pom poms.
These crabs are omnivores and actually use the anemone’s sticky tentacles to mop up food scraps and detritus in the aquarium.
Pom Pom crabs require an aquarium of at least 10 gallons with plenty of live rock. They are generally peaceful but some consider them to be semi-aggressive because their anemones may sting other animals in the aquarium.
