Horseshoe Crab (Limulus polyphemus) Care
The Horseshoe Crab, Limulus polyphemus, is also known as the King Crab. These crabs come from the Western Atlantic Ocean. They are tan to brown with a flat, round shell on the top and a line spine coming off the back.
They are carnivores and scavengers that spend most of their time searching for leftover scraps. You can supplement their diet with small pieces of fresh seafood.
Horseshoe crabs can grow to about 24″ in length and require an aquarium of at least 180 gallons with a deep sand bed that they can burrow themselves into. They are typically very peaceful but can become a nuisance when they get large by knocking over rockwork and bothering other invertebrates.
