Sebae Anemone – Tan (Heteractis crispa) Care
The Sebae Anemone, Heteractis crispa, is also known as the Leathery Sea Anemone. These anemones come from the Indo-Pacific region. They have long, flowing tentacles and come in an assortment of beautiful colors.
Anemone’s are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as brine and mysis shrimp. You can feed your anemone small pieces of shrimp and fish – make sure that the pieces are smaller than the anemone’s oral disc.
Sebae Anemones can be housed in tanks as small as 30 gallons with plenty of live rock and a good sand bed. They require high lighting and medium water flow. These anemones are photosynthetic invertebrates that use a foot to move around until they find a place with the best lighting and water flow. It is important to make sure that you have a cover on any wavemakers or pumps so they do not get caught in them.
These anemones are aggressive and will sting other anemones and corals that they consider a threat and eat small fish.
Sebae Anemones are well known for forming symbiotic relationships with many species of clownfish.
