Half & Half Wrasse (Hemigymnus melapterus) Care
The Half & Half Wrasse, Hemigymnus melapterus, is best kept in a FOWLR (Fish Only with Live Rock) aquarium of 250 gallons or more. They can reach a length of 36 inches and need large areas to swim in and plenty of rock work as hiding places, sleeping areas as well as a a fine (0.5 – 2.0 mm) sand bed of 8 inches deep. This fish will bury themselves when frightened, but normally sleeps on the sand or under coral branches and overhangs.
They are know to move rocks and corals in order to find prey along with disturbing existing sand beds by blowing streams of water looking for food, so ensure the rock work and structures are secure.
Only keep one fish per aquarium.
Half & Half Wrasse juveniles normal diet should consist of fish, crustaceans, clams, shrimp, and other meaty marine foods. Be sure to chop the foods into fine pieces and fed five or more times a day.
