BANDED HOUNDSHARK (Triakis scyllium) Care
The Banded Houndshark, Triakis scyllium, is also known as the Japanese Leopard Shark. These sharks come from Japan and Taiwan. They have a long tan and brown body, a white belly, and gray-brown saddles and spots on the body that fades with maturity.
These sharks are carnivores and will eat crustaceans, like shrimp, crabs, clams, squid, or octopus, as well as other inverts, such as worms. They will eat a variety of bony fish.
The larger the aquarium, the better this shark will do. Although, one may be OK in an aquarium as small as 1,500 gallons, a tank double that size would be much better. These sharks are known to jump, which can be a problem with an animal of this size – you should have very tall sides or some type of very sturdy lid.
NOTE: Ensure that your defused Oxygen levels are good as these sharks are intolerant of low oxygen levels.
