Spanish Hogfish (Bodianus rufus) CARE
The Spanish Hogfish, Bodianus rufus, comes from the Western Atlantic Ocean. The body is a bright yellow with a large patch of violet-blue on the upper half of the body. The patch changes from violet to blue as it ages.
Hogfish are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp and other types of fresh or frozen chopped seafood. They should be fed multiple times a day.
Spanish Hogfish reach lengths of up to 15″ and require an aquarium of at least 175 gallons with plenty of rock for hiding and lots of room for swimming. These fish are aggressive and are best kept in a fish-only tank because they will harass and eat smaller fish and invertebrates in the tank.
