Masudas Hogfish (Bodianus opercularis) CARE
The Masudas Hogfish, Bodianus opercularis, is also known as the Peppermint Hogfish. These fish come from the Western Pacific region. They have a white body with bold horizontal red stripes and a small dark spot behind the head.
Hogfish are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp and other types of fresh or frozen chopped seafood. They should be fed multiple times a day.
Masudas Hogfish can reach lengths up to 5″ and require an aquarium of at least 55 gallons with plenty of rock for hiding and lots of room for swimming. These fish are semi-aggressive and are best kept with tankmates such as are groupers, angelfishes, hawkfishes, and moderately aggressive triggerfishes.
They are considered reef safe “with caution” because they may attack small invertebrates, such as shrimp.
