Cuban Hogfish (Bodianus pulchellus) CARE
The Cuban Hogfish, Bodianus pulchellus, is also known at the Spotfin Hogfish. These fish come from the across the Atlantic Ocean. Juveniles are all yellow; adults are mostly red with yellow on the upper back half of the body.
Hogfish are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp and other types of fresh or frozen chopped seafood. They should be fed multiple times a day.
Cuban Hogfish can reach lengths up to 8″ and require an aquarium of at least 125 gallons with plenty of rock for hiding and lots of room for swimming. These fish are semi-aggressive and are best kept with tankmates such as are groupers, angelfishes, hawkfishes, and moderately aggressive triggerfishes.
They are considered reef safe “with caution” because although they will not bother coral, they will harass other fish and invertebrates.
