Candy Stripe Hogfish (Bodianus sepiacaudus) Care
The Candy Stripe Hogfish, Bodianus diana, is also known as the Diana’s Hogfish. These fish come from the Indo-Pacific region. They have a reddish-orange body with white spots running along the base of the dorsal fin.
Hogfish are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp and other types of fresh or frozen chopped seafood. They should be fed multiple times a day.
Candy Stripe Hogfish can reach lengths up to 5″ and require an aquarium of at least 70 gallons with plenty of rock for hiding and lots of room for swimming. These fish are semi-aggressive and are best kept with tankmates such as are groupers, angelfishes, hawkfishes, and moderately aggressive triggerfishes.
They are considered reef safe “with caution” because although they will not bother coral, they will harass other fish and invertebrates.
