Louti Grouper (Variola louti) Care
The Louti Grouper, Variola louti, is also known as the Coronation Grouper and Lyretail Grouper. These fish come from the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans.
These fish are very hardy and the easiest of the groupers to care for.
Groupers are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as chopped fresh fish, shrimp flesh, and/or frozen carnivore foods. They only need to be fed every other day.
Louti Groupers are large and require an aquarium of at least 300 gallons with plenty of live rock. These fish are aggressive and will eat any fish and invertebrates that it can fit into its mouth.
They are considered reef safe “with caution” because although will not normally bother coral, they will eat invertebrates.
