Honeycomb Moray Eel (Gymnothorax favagineus)

PLEASE NOTE: Although this is the same species as the Tesselata Eel, the Honeycomb Moray Eels listed here, come from Eastern Asia vs. South Asia. Additionally, these eels have a pattern with more white and do not grow quite as long as those listed as Tesselata Eels. (See images.)

The Honeycomb Moray Eel, Gymnothorax favagineus, is also known as the Laced Moray, Tesselated Eel, Tesselata Eel, and Leopard Eel.

Being a large eel, they require a 180 gallon or larger aquarium with numerous rock crevices for hiding and a secure, tight-fitting lid – they are talented escape artists.

The Honeycomb Moray Eel’s diet should include sizeable portions of live feeder fish, octopus, and squid. They may be kept in a reef tank but will eat smaller fish and inverts.
