Electric Blue Damsel (Pomacentrus coelestis) Care
The Electric Blue Damsel, Pomacentrus coelestis, is also known as the Neon Damsel. These fish come from the Indo-Pacific region. They have a brilliant blue neon body a yellow belly, caudal peduncle, and tail. The amount of yellow depends upon the area of collection.
Although damselfish are colorful, hardy, reef safe, and affordable, these little fish can be very feisty and overly aggressive towards their tankmates. In order to curb their aggressive tendencies, these fish should be kept in groups of five to seven members and with non-aggressive tankmates.
Damselfish are omnivores and require a diet rich in both meaty and plant foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp, marine algae, and flake food.
The Electric Blue Damselfish can grow to be about 4″ and can be housed in aquariums as small as 30 gallons with plenty of live rock and hiding places.
These fish are reef safe and will not bother coral or invertebrates, but may be very aggressive towards other fish.
