Azure Damsel (Chrysiptera hemicyanea) Care
The Azure Damsel, Chrysiptera hemicyanea, is also known as the Azure Demoiselle, Half Blue Damsel, and the Kupang Damsel. These fish come from the Indo-West Pacific region. They have a blue upper body and yellow dorsal fin, lower belly, caudal peduncle, and pelvic and anal fins.
Although damselfish are colorful, hardy, reef safe, and affordable, these little fish can be very feisty and overly aggressive towards their tankmates. They will do best housed with large angelfish, tangs, triggers, and dottybacks.
Damselfish are omnivores and require a diet rich in both meaty and plant foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp, marine algae, and flake food.
The Azure Damselfish can grow to be about 3″ and can be housed in aquariums as small as 30 gallons with plenty of live rock. These cute little fish are territorial and once acclimated to an aquarium, they consider the entire tank to be “their” territory.
These fish are reef safe and will not bother coral or invertebrates, but may be very aggressive towards other fish.
