Speckled Butterflyfish (Chaetodon citrinellus) Care
The Speckled Butterflyfish, Chaetodon citrinellus, is also known as Citron Butterflyfish. These fish come from across the Indo-Pacific region. They have a whitish-yellow body with small black spots and strong black vertical stripe through the eyes.
Butterflyfish are omnivores and require a diet rich in both meaty foods and plant-based foods. They will eat flake food, algae, frozen plankton, mysis and brine shrimp, and live shrimp and worms. They should be fed several times a day.
The Speckled Butterflyfish can reach lengths of up to 5″ and will do best in an aquarium of at least 75 gallons with plenty of live rock to graze on and hide in. They will thrive in large fish-only aquariums with lots of open swimming space and live rock hiding places.
The fish are not reef safe and will eat various types of corals.
