Eight Banded Butterflyfish (Chaetodon octofasciatus) Care
The Eight Banded Butterflyfish, Chaetodon octofasciatus, comes from across the Indo-Pacific region. They have a beautiful yellow body with eight vertical black lines.
These butterflyfish are carnivores and require expert care because in the wild they feed on live coral polyps. If you can get them eating in an aquarium, you may eventually be able to transition them to live brine shrimp, black worms, and frozen meaty foods such as mysis. They should be fed multiple times a day.
The Eight Banded Butterflyfish can reach lengths of up to 5″ and will do best in an aquarium of at least 55 gallons with plenty of live rock to hide in. They will do best in a fish-only aquarium with lots of open swimming space and live rock hiding places. They can be housed with other butterflyfish that have different coloration.
These fish are not reef safe and will eat various types of corals.
