Harptail Blenny (Meiacanthus mossambicus) Care
The Harptail Blenny, Meiacanthus mossambicus, is also known as the Mozambique Fangblenny. These fish come from the Western Indian Ocean. They have a pale blue-gray body, black dorsal and anal fins, and a yellow tail with streamers on its upper and lower lobes.
Blennies are a wonderful addition to aquariums whether you are a beginner or an expert, they have great personalities and are peaceful, easy to care for and typically reef safe. Many of the blennies in the genus Meiacanthus, like this one, have venomous fangs that they use to get away from predators.
This species of blenny are omnivores and require a diet containing both meaty foods and plant-based foods, such mysis and brine shrimp and marine algae. They should be fed a couple of times a day.
These fish require an aquarium of at least 30 gallons that has plenty of live rock with hiding places. Blennies love to hide in rocks with only their head out so they can survey their surroundings. They should be housed with other peaceful tankmates.
Harptail Blennies are reef safe and do not bother corals and fish. They may bother small invertebrates.
