Grammistes Blenny (Meiacanthus grammistes) Care
The Grammistes Blenny, Meiacanthus grammistes, is also known as the Striped Blenny and the Striped Poison-Fang Blenny. These fish come from the Western Pacific Ocean. The body has alternating horizontal stripes of yellow and black that change into black spots on a blue body as it reaches the tail.
Many of the blennies in the genus Meiacanthus, like this one, have venomous fangs that they use to get away from predators
This species of blenny are omnivores and require a diet containing both meaty foods and plant-based foods, such mysis and brine shrimp and marine algae. They should be fed a couple of times a day.
These fish require an aquarium of at least 30 gallons that has plenty of live rock with hiding places. Blennies love to hide in rocks with only their head out so they can survey their surroundings. They should be housed with other peaceful tankmates.
Grammistes Blennies are reef compatible but have been known to both feather dusters and small shrimp.
