Blackline Blenny (Meiacanthus nigrolineatus) Care
The Blackline Blenny, Meiacanthus nigrolineatus, is also known as the Blackline Fangblenny. These fish come from the Western Indian Ocean, specifically from the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The front part of the body is blue and the back is yellow; the dorsal fin is black as are the upper and lower lobes of the tail.
Blennies are a wonderful addition to aquariums whether you are a beginner or an expert, they have great personalities and are peaceful, easy to care for and typically reef safe. Many of the blennies in the genus Meiacanthus, like this one, have venomous fangs that they use to get away from predators.
This species of blenny are omnivores and require a diet containing both meaty foods and plant-based foods, such mysis and brine shrimp and marine algae. They should be fed a couple of times a day.
These fish require an aquarium of at least 30 gallons that has plenty of live rock with hiding places. Blennies love to hide in rocks with only their head out so they can survey their surroundings. They should be housed with other peaceful tankmates.
The Blackline Blenny is considered reef safe and peaceful but has been known to pick on other fish or nip at corals and sessile invertebrates in smaller tanks.
