Batfish, also known as spadefish, are elegant, friendly, and some can live up to 14 years. Most batfish require a fish-only system of at least 200 gallons or greater with plenty of open swimming area. They are characterized by very high fins and a relatively flat body. They grow very rapidly and even the smallest ones can quickly outgrow a small aquarium. They are not considered reef safe, but are peaceful, have good personalities, and can easily be the centerpiece in a large fish-only tank.
