Tobacco Basslet (Serranus tabcarius) Care
The Tobacco Basslet, Serranus tabcarius, is also known as the Tobacco Fish and Tobacco Bass. These fish come from the Western Atlantic Ocean, from Bermuda south to the northern part of Brazil. They have a burnt orange colored body with patches of black and white on the upper body.
Tabacco Basslets are carnivores and require a diet of meaty foods such as mysis and brine shrimp and high-quality fresh and frozen marine fish food. They should be fed a couple of times a day.
These fish require an aquarium of at least 70 gallons and will do best in a tank with lower light and plenty of live rock with hiding places. They are semi-aggressive and many attack smaller fish and inverts. If you want more than one of these fish, you should house them in a tank of 125 gallons or more.
