Royal Gramma (Gramma loreto) Care
The Royal Gramma Basslet, Gramma loreto, comes from the Western Atlantic Ocean, from Bermuda down to the northern part of South America. These brightly colored fish are a very popular basslet because they are peaceful, hardy, reef compatible, and can be housed in nano tanks. The front half of the body is a brilliant violet-purple color and the back half is an equally vibrant yellow.
Royal Gramma’s are carnivores and require a diet of meaty foods such as mysis and brine shrimp and high-quality fresh and frozen marine fish food. They should be fed a couple of times a day.
These fish require an aquarium of at least 30 gallons and will do best in a tank with plenty of live rock with hiding places. Although they are peaceful, they may be territorial towards other basslets.
They are reef safe and will not bother corals, inverts or other small fish.
