Lantern Basslet (Serranus baldwini) Care
The Lantern Basslet, Serranus baldwini, comes from the Western Atlantic Ocean, from Bermuda south to the northern part of Brazil. The body is tan with orange, black and brown blotches and a couple of yellow lines.
Lantern Bass are carnivores and require a diet of meaty foods such as mysis and brine shrimp and high-quality fresh and frozen marine fish food. They should be fed a couple of times a day.
These fish require an aquarium of at least 30 gallons and will do best in a tank with plenty of live rock and hiding places. They are semi-aggressive and may attack smaller fish and inverts.
They are considered reef safe “with caution” because although they will not bother coral, they may eat small invertebrates and fish.
