Huchtii Anthias (Pseudanthias huchtii) Care
The Hutchii Anthias, Pseudanthias huchtii, is also known as the Red Cheek Anthias, Sea Goldie Anthias, and the Green Anthias. These fish come from the Western Central Pacific region. Males have a yellowish-green body with a red-orange vertical stripe behind the eye. Females are a tan-gray in color and the vertical stripe behind the eye is tan.
Hutchii Anthias are carnivores and require a diet including meaty foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, copepods and amphipods, and fortified marine fish food. They should be fed a couple of times a day. These anthias are a bit hardier than many anthias.
These fish require an aquarium of at least 125 gallons and will do well in both reef tanks and fish-only tanks. They are schooling fish and need plenty of room to swim, good water flow, and places to hide in the tank. Anthias school in harems with one male and multiple females; if the male dies, the dominant female with change sex to become the male. They should be housed with other non-aggressive fish.
Anthias are reef safe and will not bother coral, inverts or other fish, except other anthias species.
