Passer Angelfish (Holacanthus passer) Care
The Passer Angelfish, Holacanthus passer, is also known as the King Angelfish and Whitebanded Angelfish. They come from the Eastern Pacific, including the Gulf of California to Peru and the Galapagos Islands. The adult is mostly dark blue with a white vertical stripe extending down from the dorsal fin towards the pelvic fin. The dorsal fin is trimmed in yellow and the caudal and pectoral fins are yellow. The ventral fins are yellow on a female and white on the male.
Passer Angelfish are omnivores that require a diet of marine algae, angelfish food, and a variety of meaty foods. They should be fed multiple times a day.
They can grow up to over a foot in length and do best in an aquarium that is at least 250 gallons or more and has plenty of live rock to graze on and hide in.
They are considered reef safe with caution because they have been known to nip at clam mantles and corals.
