Polyps, related to sea anemones and jellyfish, are colonial corals. A great choice for new aquarists, they are extremely hardy and can be found in an astonishing array of colors. Coral polyps are tiny, soft-bodied organisms that attach themselves to a hard protective skeleton and act as a single organism. Polyps host symbiotic algae which provide nutrition to the polyps through photosynthesis. Polyps also eat small meaty foods like brine shrimp and plankton.
